Options for updating your PBX

You have seen, in Khomp’s blog, how important IP telephony is for adding value and services to your company’s telephony network. To facilitate and optimize integration of this technology, the employment of appropriate Media Gateways is a critical aspect.

“When implementing or updating a telephony network, it is important to properly dimension call traffic volume, as well as the number of extensions needed to meet this demand”, explains Khomp’s Commercial Consultant, Rafael Nahid.

It is worth remembering that, ensuring that the network infrastructure is scalable is as important as correct dimensioning, so as to allow growth without loss of investment. “It is no use making a large investment in equipment that will quickly need to be replaced due to structural changes in the company. Ideally, you should use scalable Media Gateways”, reinforces Nahid.

Khomp Media Gateways

Designed for small to mid-sized business, Khomp’s UMG line offers seven different models to implement all the benefits of IP telephony. Our highlight is the UMG Modular 300, which allows for implementing your own PBX or IP PBX with integrated gateway.

“This is a very flexible model, due to its compatibility with any software application for PBX, call center, dialer, etc. Just conduct the application IP address to the gateway”, details the commercial consultant.

The device integrates different interfaces. You can choose three among E1/T1, 2G or 3G GSM, FXO, and FXS. Therefore, it is possible to make up to 46 simultaneous calls and connect with up to 2 different VoIP carriers.

Surviving with a UMG at the endpoint

Availability of IP services is always a concern when talking about this type of technology. A data network outage, for example, might shut down all features and cause financial loss to the business.
With this in mind, Khomp designed a survival system for the UMG line. When there is a network outage, the device keeps the resources working normally, avoiding losses. “We understand the user is not responsible for network availability at the company. Therefore, they should not be penalized if instabilities occur”, he adds.

UMG Tools

The entire UMG line from Khomp has a tool that provides even more features to their devices. UMG Tools is an Asterisk resource module that strengthens the integration between UMG and Asterisk. It is a separate package, provided by Khomp, only for the UMG line, to be installed in the same server running Asterisk.

“After installation, you can manage more than one UMG simultaneously; check information on the status of E1/T1 links and FXS extensions; read GSM modem signal intensity; among other conveniences”, concludes Nahid.
