IP phones – advantages beyond low cost

The use of IP phones has become increasingly more common in applications from small environments to large call centers for various reasons and resources. In this context, we find that the adoption of this technology has already become dominant in some companies, but is still an ambiguity for last-mile consumers.

It’s not news that voice over Internet calls drastically reduce telephone bills in any scenario. As with any new technology related to the optimization of productivity for businesses, however, the new resources require initial investment and knowledge (or a little faith!). This being the case, this text will introduce some of the main features of IP phones to help reduce your hesitancy toward the new technology.

The main doubts encountered when faced with choosing an IP phone for a telephony solution are: service reliability, voice quality, and solution processing capacity, as well as the control and management of these elements. In fact, these are essential points for the successful execution of daily tasks in corporate environments.

With each passing day, and more services and programs running on computers, problems with processing, memory and disks can cause damages to a business and also to network voice communication, especially with packet loss. When we choose to use a softphone on a computer, call quality is sensitive to these issues and users may have problems with interruptions in speech, loss of audio, and echo, among others things within this scenario.

An easy way to solve this problem is to use a dedicated device for voice treatment, regardless of the computer, where processing, inputs/outputs, audio quality and features are dedicated and developed for the best treatment of this solution. And here we are talking about IP phones and the various resources they offer.

In this niche, Khomp has a line of IP phones called IPS – IP Phone Series. Made up of 5 models to meet different needs, the IPS have exclusive processing for handling voice over IP communications, making communication reliable and much more. Learn more about the IPS line here.

Auto provisioning

Easy installation of IP phones is performed through the self provisioning service, which makes all the configuration of the device simpler and faster. The auto provisioning feature automatically searches for devices connected to the network to perform the automatic default setting.

Voice quality

Voice quality, another essential requirement, is also fully effective in IP phones with their HD Voice quality and high quality CODECS that allow for clear and effective communication.

Simple installation

Physically, an important aspect is the possibility of using IP phones with PoE (Power over Ethernet), which reduces the cost of implementation because it is possible to connect the the product to the network and its power source at a single point. Power supplied by PoE eliminates the chance of power supplies being burned out by electrical discharges, and eliminates one more connection point that can fail for the user. Another feature is the product’s second network port, which enables users to have Internet on their computer and an IP phone on their desk with only one network cable: just run it to the IP phone and connect the second network output of the phone to the PC.

Network security

No less important, IP phones have advanced security features to prevent attacks on the company’s internal network, an essential feature in corporate environments. IP phones use the TLS protocol for encryption of SIP protocol and the SRTP protocol for media protection, these being essential for the warranty and for reliability in internal and external communications. Another possibility is the use of VPN clients for remote connections where the IP phone itself can actually become a VPN client, closing a direct connection and ensuring the necessary security for a remote station.

Exclusive advantage of Khomp IP phones: IP +

With its IPS line, Khomp also provides some other exclusive features such as the IP+ app, which allows the use of an extension with mobility. After downloading the IP+ app in the smartphone and configuring it with your ISP, your cell phone will work as an extension of your IPS device. The app has a simple interface where all available resources are presented in an intuitive way and arranged on 4 screens. The key features to point out include access to the smartphone’s local directory for calling through the extension and access to the personal agenda of the IP phone; resources to reject or transfer a call without answering it; notifications of calls by push; and the hot swap function, which enables the user to switch the ongoing call service between IP+ in the cell and the physical IP phone, at the user’s convenience. Compatible with iOS and Android.

Any questions?

With all these available features and functions you can get a good idea of the benefits of implementing a system using IP phones in your environment. There will always be network problems that can affect your decision, so make sure you have a network with the necessary prerequisites for using this solution before getting started; and welcome to a more productive and technological environment for your users, which will bring your business greater value-added solutions.
